Chris Romano & Anthony Bonanno joined a field of 45 cars in their BMW M Coupe lovingly dubbed ‘the bread-van’! Despite incredibly stiff competition, Romano and Bonanno finished 2nd in class which included racing stalwarts Geoff Morgan & Simon Hogg in their Porsche 911.

A debutant at the Mount Panorama circuit, Romano spent Friday practice familiarising himself with the circuit before Qualifying late Friday afternoon which yielded a 2nd place start.

Race 1 in dry conditions proved to be a tight tussle as Bonanno traded places with racers from the higher categories. The distraction yielded a 3rd in class but made for a great spectacle.

Race 2 yielded a 2nd place finish for Romano in another ‘dog fight’ and the scene was set for Sunday’s 1 hour enduro.

A frantic start (see pic) saw the field scramble as one of the lead Porsche made it’s bit to fly! The ensuing laps where equally busy as Bonanno worked hard to chase down the class leader which ultimately resulted in a brief off track excursion. By lap 9 Bonanno fired into pit-lane for the driver change in 3rd place. Romano wasted no time exiting pit road in effort to hunt down the class leaders. 2nd in class pitted the following lap and Romano worked on reducing the margin which ultimately resulted in both cars racing nose to tail until the chequered flag.

A great weekend with a bumper grid and some amazing racing. Francophiles would have also noted the very rare Renault Spider driven by Adam Spence & Adam Moore which is normally raced at tarmac rally events.
